Terms of Endearment

What’s your special name for your significant other? Is it something you use in public, or is it restricted in the privacy of your bedroom only? How many terms of endearment do you have for each other?

It’s important to have that special name for each other because it’s what couples who are in love do! For those outside that relationship obviously it can sound cheesy (and sometimes sickening), but who cares? When you go to bed at night, there’s only you, your partner and the love between you.

A term of endearment brings couples together. When you think of the object of your affection, you do so with that very special name and this evokes a warm fuzzy feeling inside you.

I’ve put together a list of different terms of endearment from various languages. Take your pick. And do let me know what you and your significant other use for each other so we can add them to the list below. Ciao dahlings!

blikitik? hahahaha! let’s see (promise not to wince) … churot (he, an ex), chalap (me). i had been called schnookums too. i used to know a couple who called each other “maw” (halimaw, monster) and beh (or bebeh). don’t know why but i dislike the sound of habibi (Arabic for beloved) :(

What a wonderful list. I love the Italian and Spanish terms.

I love ‘amore mio’ (Italian) - My love

Another term of endearment, which I love but is missing here is ‘Mi cielo’ (Spanish) - My sky

Oh, I love the Arabic term mentioned in the comment - Habibi/Habeti (one is for female and the other male. I forget which one) ;-)

    Thanks for the invite, Joy.

    Best,
    Paz

Well Odd and I usually calls “vennen min” which means my dear but it is common in Norway to say that though. Or we also say gutten min or my boy.

since 1992 we’ve been calling each other ‘mahal’ privately and publicly. we got married in 1993.

i have a friend couple calling each other ‘jal’ derived from ‘majal’ but the j is pronounced as jag.

I call my significant other Bendi. It is short for Bendicion which is spanish for blessing. He calls me mnandi which means beautiful I am fluent in Spanish and he is fluent in South African Afrikaans. So we try to use names for each other that come from our native tongues.
